Rowleys Bakery is now closed

I have literally bought thousands of loaves of bread from Rowleys on Ham Parade over the years, plus lots of mince pies and hot cross buns, so it has come as something as a shock to read this notice to say that they have closed suddenly.

With hindsight there have been signs with recent short-term closures for things like no flour, but it is still a shock.

Of course this may prove to be another temporary closure or somebody else might move in and make use of the ovens. I can but hope.

It's very sad, their small loaves were the best bread in the world, really light and with a great crust, but for at least two months none of their bread was rising - bad batch of flour they said - but I get the feeling something in the processing of flour has changed, and that was hat for their bread. I loved Rowley's. Saw some workmen peering thru the glass this morning. They'll have to go to Greggs now.

NOOOOO !! What the Hell, I've been going there for 15 years, really good bread & cakes, Good sandwiches & very good value, Oh no I just realized no more cheesy bread sticks ! Nightmare, who else sells items like this ?! This is a very sad time, theres no other decent old school bakers like this around now, I like Artisan breads sold by everyone else sometimes, but other times just want decent bread !

    Bye bye to Rowleys

Bye bye to the cheese stick and bloomer so fine
bye bye to the sour dough and doughnut.
There’s no more aroma of fresh baking bread.
Rowleys is closed down for ever.
Bye bye to the hot cross buns all in a row
bye bye to the bagels with cream cheese.
There’s no where to go to find such tasty bread
now Rowleys is closed down for ever.
Bye bye to the brown loaf, the cottage and tin,
bye bye to the birds nest rice krispies.
There’s no more ham sandwiches, mustard and cress,
Rowleys is closed down for ever.
Go early at five, or later at two,
    the bakers was usually open.
There’s no queuing on Saturdays to tide over weekends
now Rowleys is closed down for ever.
The builders they peer in the window to see
whether ladies who served them are in there,
but there’s no-one inside and no note to explain
why Rowleys has closed down for ever.
First butcher, then green grocer both of them died,
and Malcolm we miss more than ever.
But there’s no one bakes bread the way that they did.
So sad Rowleys has closed down for ever.
