Ham Photos is a growing archive of photos of Ham (at the meeting of Richmond upon Thames and Kingston upon Thames in south-west London), where I have lived since 1996. It captures the small changes that are easily missed and delights in the unusual, the unexpected and the unnoticed.

New benches on Ham Village Green
The incremental changes to Ham Village Green continue with the addition of two new benches alongside paths that cross the Green. They are markedly different to the curved bench that was added in 2019. On the plus side the new benches are higher off the ground which makes it easier to get on and off them but on the negative side they look more suited to a station than a village green.

Hi Matthew
ReplyDeleteThe benches are designed to make the park more accessible to people with limited mobility. Like the curved "Act of Kindness" bench, it is part of the LBRuT's Friendly Parks for all scheme. The Council has just released a video on the scheme on their YouTube channel, which shows a similar bench in Kneller Gardens and I prefer the design used there. Maybe the Friends of Ham Village Green found these more suitable for the park?
