Hacked

The destruction of the wildlife corridor through Royal Park Gate continues despite the best efforts of Kingston Council and the promises of local residents who promise to do nothing on the Council owned land not to do any work that is not in accordance with the area's management plan, promises that are all too often and all too quickly broken.

This is criminal damage but, once again, the culprits will get away with it through lack of hard evidence and their unrealistic protestations that they did not realise that they were doing anything wrong.

This section of Royal Park Gate is now an ugly disaster.

  1. Can the council not insist they restore the plants?

  2. There has been a little bit of replanting at the Northweald Lane end but part of the problem is knowing for certain who is responsible for the destruction.

I'm a bit confused about the statement "the areas management plan", I have seen very little management of the area in the 7 years that we have lived here. I have been in contact with the LA on many occasions and constantly been told that there is a new contractor or a new plan coming but nothing ever seems to materialise On first moving here the cycle path at the bend was half covered in foliage and unsafe as you couldnt see oncoming cyclicts. I have seen the council trim this area (poorly) once. As its near our house we trim it back to the path edge as needed. The estate was built in 1996 and there are areas like above that have not been manged at all. Hence the trees bending, these are now recovering as they have space around them. It may look a bit harsh at present but I'm confident that nature will once again take over. Not everything that is done may be to everyones likes but then I dont feel very comfortable with criticisising people who are trying to do somehing when the LA appear to do so little.

    1. You need to get out more. The contractors are often out trimming back the vegetation and mowing the grass.
